William Weintraub, American born is known for his superb rendition ofportraits of Israeli presidents, and Israeli people. He graduated from Maryland Institute of Art, and studied under the reknowned teacher Jacques Maroger. In 1944 he volunteeered in the US Merchant Marines and continued to paint subjects from his trips to Europe and the Mediterranean. Weintrabu arrived in Palestine in 1948 and fought the War of Independence, after a brief internment in Cyprus. Following a stint in the Israeli Merchant Navy he settled in Tel-Aviv in 1955 where he gave all his time to painting.
Weintraub has had many successful one-man shows and participated in group exhibitions all over the world including New York, Pierre Matisse Gallery. His paintings are also in the Israel Museum, Jerusalem.
