Saul Raskin was born in 1878 in Nogaysk, Russia. At 15 studied lithography in Odessa and later attended art academies in Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland. After emigrating to America in 1904, he became a multifaceted artist producing etchings, paintings, watercolours and even cartoons. He became a famous illustrator of Jewish subjects and was also a lecturer, writer and teacher.
