8 1/2″ x 12 1/2″Simon Karczmar was born in Warsaw. He spent much time with his grandfather in Dzieweniszky, a small Lithuanian shtetl with its “chata”(delapidated wooden houses). It was this homely and pious life sparkled with traditional events which inspired him to paint. After studying in Paris at the Ecole de Beaux Arts and working there for 20 years, he emigrated to Safed, Israel. He has held one man shows in USA, Canada, Mexico, and Paris He is best known for his vivid scenes of Jewish traditions, weddings etc., and atmospheres of Chassidic ecstasy.
